The 2009 Volvo S40 is a stylish and relatively affordable car even when compared with its Japanese rivals.

It has an exquisite design, reassuring safety features and a premium feel that is priced at a lot less than its European rivals in the premium compact sedan segment such as the Audi A4 and the BMW 3 Series.

Features that distinguish it from its predecessor include Bluetooth compatibility, 16-inch alloy wheels, foglights, powered seats, satellite radio and an eight-speaker stereo system with a six-CD changer.

Also, it proudly carries on with the Volvo tradition of offering a comfortable cabin thanks to ingeniously designed seats.

Available in Malaysia in only one variant, namely the 2.4i, the S40 also comes standard with 16-inch 'Cordelia' alloy wheels, a trip computer, a tilt and telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, memory function for the driver's seat and automatic climate control.

Also, there is an accessories package which includes a Garmin portable navigation system, bodykit, sports pedal set and two types of 18-inch rims to choose from.

Meanwhile, the new S40 upholds the Volvo reputation for safety with Side Impact Protection System (SIPS), Anti-lock braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Stability and Traction Control (STC), and Emergency Brake Assistance (EBA), all as standard.

The S40 also has front-seat side airbags and full-length head curtain airbags, along with whiplash-reducing head restraints for outboard positions.
