'Deadly' little Ninja - Kawasaki Ninja 250

FOR the past year, the most awaited bike in the country is not a tarmac scorching, super duper sportsbike. It is actually a small 250cc four-stroke in-line twin bike - the new Ninja 250. Superbikes are normally reserved for those with deep pockets or are willing to splurge. The government so far has regarded superbikes as toys that should be taxed heavily. Sportier Nouvo

THOSE into scooters and mopeds have now another option to choose from. Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn Bhd (HLYM) has launched an upgraded version of its popular sku-chai (street name for this scooter and kapchai hybrid), the Nouvo. Previously powered by a 110cc engine, the Nouvo's performance now is greatly enhanced with the use of the 135cc liquid-cooled engine, taken from the LC135 bike. Click here to read more.

A kick boxer on two wheels - Momos Boxer 200

IF the bike here looks familiar, then you might have been to Bangkok recently. This bike is used by the police force there, and there is a good reason for that too - this is a Thai bike. But here in Malaysia, Mofaz Motosikal or Momos has the rights to assemble it under their own brand, Momos. Developed with a colaboration between Tiger Motorcycle of Thailand and Cagiva of Italy (it was marketed once as a Cagiva F4 in South East Asia), this Momos Boxer ST200 has an air-cooled four-stroke engine which is 198.9cc big. Naza sponsors bike for Borneo bike ride

NAZA Bikes will be providing three bikes for the upcoming Kembara Motosikal Borneo or the Borneo Riding Expedition which will begin this August 19. "We will be supplying the team with two Naza Cruiser 650 and a Blade 650," said Zulkefly Abdul Manan, the deputy general manager for Naza Bikes. He further added that this will be a reliability test for the bikes too as the ride will cover some unpaved roads. Click here to read more.

Modenas updates Passion and Kriss

MODENAS, our national bike manufacturer has launched a revised version of its Passion 125 scooter and the popular Kriss 120. The Passion 125 Sports gets a sportier graphics, new meter panel, updated headlight and other accessories. The Kriss 120 looks the same, but now comes with the DeComp mechanisme, which is basically a decompression system for easier kick starting. According to the company's CEO, Abdul Harith Abdullah, Modenas is confident that they will gain 15 per cent of the market by year end. Click here to read more.

IN many developed countries, the 250cc bikes are called learner's bike. It is a bike for newbies, before they start riding bigger engined machines. But here, most Malaysians who ride carry a B2 licence, which allows them access to machines up to 250cc only. Hence, why the 250cc category is so popular. MOTO GUZZI has been the gentleman's bike for years, but now it wants to attract younger riders to its fold. Enter the Stelvio, a new dual-purpose (DP) monster from the Italian company. This Stelvio is heading towards the same crowd that the BMW GS is targeting. It used to be a lonely segment but lately, everybody wants to have their own DP. Stelvio offers a tallish ride, but wide handlebars help stability and rider control, a good thing when traversing some rocky roads or fording a stream. Click here to read more.
