Public transport   THE goverment should consider extending a tax subsidy to the public for using public transport similar to the one given for books and magazines. For example, RM300 rebate for every bus/taxi ticket used for a consecutive 12-month period or something better. This would spur and encourage more people to use public transport and save on tax. I guess when there is a tax deduction given, even the rich will consider and hopefully we can and will reduce the amount of cars on the road. - 012 5201848 Click here to read more.

Insurance woes   IN Britain and many developed countries, vintage and classic cars enjoy much lower insurance premiums. The rationale is simple ñ they are seldom used and owners take good care of their valued possessions on and off the road. As such, insurers reward them accordingly. But in Malaysia, such incentives do not exist. Instead, loadings of between 100 and 300 per cent are imposed simply because the cars are old. - 012-7077077 Click here to read more.

Proton feedback   THE Satria Neo R3 (SNR3LRE) is overpriced and in terms of performance is not that powerful compared with the earlier Satria R3 (4G93). - 019-2208660   I DON'T understand why Proton keeps tweaking the 1.6 Campro engine when it can't even outperform the initial Satria GTi. Proton should instead manufacture the Campro 1.8 and 2.0 as these engines produce better horsepower and torque than the overpriced new Satria Neo R3. - 012-2681109   Click here to read more.

Car Hazard Lights - Misinterpretation

Safety taken for a ride

I REFER to your editorial published on Jan 2. My observations are: 1. That on several occasions along the North-South Highway and East-West Highway, it was not 80/90km/h as stipulated but instead was 110/120km/h for the buses. 2. That the double decker buses are not fit for long distanace travel specifically on winding roads due to its narrow width and above normal height which impede safe handling on the road. There is nothing wrong with the double decker buses for city tours or shuttles but they should not be for long distance travel. Click here to read more.

Fuel gripes   I VOTE for a free market and green earth future. Abolish fuel subsidy and taxes, and start using Euro4 diesel! - 012-9279978   THE fuel subsidy issue has a long drag. In a the first place, what are subsidies for? My opinion is that it's for the nation’s competitiveness against others, not the individual's. - 019-3889012   Click here to read more.

Fuel gripes   FREE the market by abolishing subsidies and lower car taxes. The market will correct itself. You solve the 20% problem and the 80% will correct itself. Competition makes you stronger and forces you to raise the bar of performance. Protection does the opposite. - 019-3238870   EVERY week, I see a lot of grievances concerning the National Automotive Policy, tax duties and subsidies. The rakyat would like to know who propose and impose them, their qualifications and the cars they own! - 012-7526111   Click here to read more.

Fuel gripesWHY must the government penalise those innocent people. Rich people earn their money the hard way, yet they can’t enjoy subsidised petrol. The government already imposes tax equivalent to three times the original price of the car. Please remove all car taxes and then remove the subsidies for petrol. - 012-2236829 Click here to read more.

Fuel gripes   TO 016-6989441, why the fuss over subsidised fuel? The fuel price increase is not the issue. The issue is the effect it will have on prices of everything else! Nobody is disputing the increase of fuel prices, it’s the unbearable strain of just getting by when your next meal is going to cost you more! - 014-7735990   Click here to read more.

Fuel snippets   WHY the big fuss over subsidised fuel? I average 200 litres of petrol monthly for my Hyundai Sonata. An extra RM60 monthly for non-subsidised petrol is no problem. It's just one less weekend outing with the boys. - 016-6989441   Click here to read more.
