Which dying generation

Referring to the JKJR column entitled "A dying generation" (CBT Aug 15th) my own recent experience is that the JPJ syllabus enables people to be on the road without adequate or any training. All one needs to do is attend a six hour theory session and you get an "L" license. With that one can ride a motorcycle of any displacement. The theory session doesn't remotely cover any safety aspect of being visible, wearing the right gear,  assessment of hazards and risks or the responsibility of handling a machine. Techniques and skills are also not taught. Click here to read more.

Stealth Myvi on the prowl

I CAN'T help but to bring up the issue of the ever increasing number of stealth cars on our roads. These inexperienced and irresponsible drivers are causing a new form of danger on our roads without thinking of their own safety and that of other road users. Many would say that this is not an issue and not big enough to make the authorities notice.Well, I have something to share that will hopefully bring these hip and funky drivers to the eyes of the law.I recall an incident once when I was driving along a pitch black stretch of highway in Klang after dinner with some of my fri Click here to read more.

When the left leg wanders... DRIVING a car with an automatic transmission for the first time can be dangerous since we learn to drive with manual transmission at driving schools. The left leg tends to step on the brake pedal of the automatic transmission because it is so used to stepping on the clutch. What happens if there are other vehicles following you?To avoid this dangerous mistake, it is wise to tie your left ankle to the left foot of the driver’s seat.Keep doing this until you are familiar with the automatic transmission.- Shaikh Mahdi Click here to read more.

Seeing red over charges

I AM the owner of a Toyota Vios 1.5E (A).  When I bought the car, I had to take it back to the Toyota Service Centre for servicing and oil change.  The bill was always high and I always dreaded sending the car for service and oil change. I had no choice as the car was still under warranty and had to be serviced by Toyota. Also, the car had to be sent in the morning and it would be ready by 5pm. Click here to read more.

Talkback

TALKBACK   Roadside danger   SOMETIME ago, I came across a bad accident near my housing area. The accident was caused by some irresponsible people who set up an unlicensed stall at the roadside. An unlucky motorcyclist was hit by a van when he wanted to cross a T-junction. Drivers parked their lorries and cars on the roadside to have their food at the stall. Worse still, the stall was just 15cm away from the main road. Click here to read more.

GPS insight

GPS insight I READ with interest the contents of your article regarding the unavailability of GPS in a Malaysian made model on sale here. Although no name was mentioned, I had personally contacted one of the main distributors on the availability of the GPS. However, the response I received was unsatisfactory. It was a lame excuse as I know that it is available in Singapore and now Thailand. It is disheartening to note that a Japanese boss needed to investigate on his own why this option was not available here but available in Thailand and Singapore. Click here to read more.
