New Scania trucks for cost reduction

SCANIA recently announced the delivery of 56 units of the new Scania P380 6x2 haulage trucks to JP Logistics Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Johor Port Bhd. "This purchase shall reduce our operating costs at least for the next five years as Scania's new prime movers provide better mileage and reduced maintenance and repairs as compared with the old fleet that we sold recently," said JP Logistics chief executive officer Mohd Hanifah Abdul Kadir. Much soreness in transport sector

In the interests of public safety and combating inflation, the government should look into problems besetting the transport industry.Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Lorry Operators Association secretary general Alvin Choong stated that problems include overloading by commercial vehicles, increased fuel cost, corruption among traffic enforcers, as well as old trucks that should never have passed inspection.Choong also urged the government to reduce road tax for commercial vehicles.    “Fuel and other costs have escalated in recent times,” said Choong.Click here to read more.

New specifications needed from RTD

The Road Transport Department and Works Ministry should work together and issue the new specifications for commercial vehicles to be able to carry 20 per cent more load on federal roads as soon as possible.Previously, commercial vehicles were not allowed to carry more than 10 metric tonnes per axle on federal roads.However, the Works Ministry announced in April that the load had been increased to 12 metric tonnes per axle.Click here to read more.
