THE Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution now available in Malaysia does not have a speed limiter.
Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MMM) assistant head of sales and product planning Hoffen Teh stated this during the launch of the new sports sedan at Suria KLCC in Kuala Lumpur last Thursday.
Kojiro Asai, who is manager (Asia and Asean A department) from Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Japan, pointed out that other highlights of the Lancer Evolution include 18-inch BBS lightweight alloy wheels that weigh less than 1kg each.
The Lancer Evolution comes with a 6-speed Twin Clutch SST (sport shift transmission) which automatically optimises gear shift timing.
Drivers can choose between Normal, Sport and Super Sport modes.
Other feature include Eibach coil springs, Bilstein shock absorbers, and a suspension with MacPherson strut in front and a multi-link in the rear.
HID (high intensity discharge) head lamps with AFS (adaptive front lighting system) come as standard.
Also, there are Recaro full bucket front seats, a 9-speaker Rockford Fosgate audio system, keyless operating system and sunroof.
Asai added that in Malaysia, the Lancer Evolution is sold without the X in its name.
“This is in line with the marketing and image of the car in selected markets,” he said.
Also, MMM chief executive officer Keizo Ono said a manual transmission with the Lancer Evolution might be introduced in Malaysia in the future if there is sufficient demand.
Meanwhile, the Triton Lite 4x2 pick-up truck was the top seller for Mitsubishi in July with 245 units sold.
“Usually, the monthly sales volume for the entire 4x2 pick-up trucks segment here is 190 units. Demand for 4x2 pick-up trucks in Malaysia seemed to have grown significantly after the recent fuel price hike,” said Ono, who is also confident of a 60 per cent growth in sales for Mitsubishi this year.
“Last year, we sold 4,414 units. However, the first seven months of this year have seen sales of 4,123 units,” said Ono, adding that the company is bringing in 50 units of the Lancer Evolution this year.
Presently, 30 bookings have been received for the Lancer Evolution.
The Lancer Evolution comes with a one-year/20,000km warranty or whichever comes first.
