Heritage rally

THE Badan Warisan Malaysia (The Heritage of Malaysia Trust) is having a heritage event, bringing together the magic of historic automobiles and the beauty of heritage buildings in Selangor.

The Royal Selangor Heritage Car Rally is an automobile event that will also take participants to a series of historic buildings and sites in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor on March 14.

The rally starts at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, which is the headquarters of event title sponsor Royal Selangor International Sdn Bhd.

After an opening address by BWM president Tun Datuk Seri Ahmad Sarji bin Abdul Hamid, approximately 70 vintage and classic automobiles, courtesy of the Malaysia and Singapore Vintage Car Register and other local classic car clubs, will be flagged off by rally champion Karamjit Singh at 9am.

The convoy will pass Dataran Merdeka and the Old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station before doing a lap of honour at the newly refurbished Merdeka Stadium.

From this historic Independence proclamation site, participants will embark on a long drive to Kuala Selangor for lunch before ending the rally at the Istana Alam Shah in Klang where the event patron, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al–Haj, will hosting a tea reception for particpants and guests at the the classic car gallery.

There will also be a contest for the best presented cars in the  vintage, classic and modern classic categories.

BWM is a leading national heritage non-governmental organisation with more than 25 years in heritage conservation services in Malaysia.

It recently received a Unesco award in the restoration of Suffolk House in Penang.
